The Living Room

The living room faced a common issue: limited storage and an oversized corner sofa dominating the space. The owners sought an inviting and multifunctional space for music practice, TV watching with plenty of concealed storage to tidy their children's toys.

The existing chimney breast was too shallow to create alcoves so we decided to flip the room and introduce a wall to wall library unit instead. A piano also needed to be factored in the space which influenced the size of the sofa.

The large library wall now boasts LED lighting, infusing warmth into the room. We replaced the dark blue corner sofa with a soft linen sofa chaise from Loaf, complementing the inviting atmosphere with a statement chandelier, bespoke wave curtains and a coordinating rug from West Elm.

Our efforts didn't stop at the living room, we also remodelled the open plan kitchen diner to make it more user-friendly.

Open Plan Kitchen Diner

The open plan kitchen was the sociable space where most of the owners spend their time. Storage was lacking here again with a large radiator occupying the back wall, pushing the table almost in the centre of the room creating a broken walk flow.

The kitchen was fitted as part of the development. The modern shaker style and U-shape was practical enough but we suggested upgrading the peninsula and splashback from a grey laminate to a warm veined engineered quartz.

The light pendants were also upgraded to provide a softer more diffused light and we added recessed LED lighting in the banquette seating shelves too - ideal to create a cosy atmosphere. Nestled by the sliding door is a TV snug corner for which we source a love seat from Loaf to replace the dark blue armchair.   Open Plan Kitchen Diner with snug area and built in banquette seating | Ivywell Interiors, Stoke Bishop, Bristol

The kitchen diner hides another cool and in our view indipensable feature, a stylish home bar. Tucked in an unused alcove, we proposed to build an open shelf bar unit, idea that the owners loved. It would serve to declutter the kitchen worktop as well as light up a dark corner in the room. We opted for a mirrored back with recessed LEDs to really bounce the light and create a lovely feature. We retain closed storage on the lower part to hide the 'unsightlies' and the detail we love - an invisible touch activated control switch for the lights.

Cloakroom

With the majority of the budget allocated to the kitchen and living room, we focused on creating a fun space in the cloakroom but kept the existing fixtures. A fresh colour scheme and textured wallpaper injected the vibrancy and personality we needed into the space without breaking the bank.

The owners asked us to fully manage the project which took just under six months to go from design to completion. It was a real team effort with our local network of trades people, from decorators, electrician to joiner, the house was given a good injection of TLC for the owners to enjoy and love in the years to come.
