Colourful Interiors for a Period Home, Clifton

The homeowners contacted us to help them with their formal living room, living room snug and cloakroom renovation. They were slowly working through their period home starting with the top floors and were finally ready to tackle the remaining rooms but were stuck for inspiration.

Both living rooms are on the narrow side with tall ceilings. It was a key part of the design to make the space appear larger and less cavernous. The existing colour scheme was all neutral and the owners felt it was time to be braver in their choices and bring some colours into their home.

The entrance features some period tiles with a lovely light blue, both owners liked blue as well, so it was only natural to opt for a strong blue in the living room that would create that connection.

They were also keen to add stronger pops of colours in the upholstery to really instil a fun atmosphere to the space, whilst remaining fairly formal as a layout.
The space benefited from a tall bay window but its full effect was blocked by an existing sofa. The window also faces North which casts quite a cold light so the fabric needed to be strong and bold. The new occasional seats create a feature without blocking the light and their yellow fabric brings a smile to our faces, even on the gloomiest day.

The snug

Adjoining the main living is a smaller snug space designed predominantly for the kids. It is a multi functional space for games, music and TV.

Before: the multi purpose snug
The decision was to carry the blue theme into this room and use the upholstery to give the room its own identity. The owners were once again brave with their choices and we absolutely loved sourcing the fabrics for this project.

The owners' existing armchair was re-upholstered by our partner Sofa Magic. They displayed the chair in their showroom window whilst it was waiting for collection and it was a real show-stopper with many passers-by popping in to take a closer look.

The vibrant and stripy fabric is a bold choice that was the response for creating a 'wow' moment every time the owners entered the room. The fabric captured all the tones of the room with the added piping detail to match the bespoke sofa blue velvet fabric.
Hiding the TV in the chimney breast wasn't a viable option, instead the clients opted for a Samsung Frame TV which allows them to display artwork and photos to blend in with the décor.

Throughout the process, we worked hand in hand with the owners to support the design, sourcing and implementation. The real success for us is that we helped the owners find their confidence to create a highly individual space, full of gorgeous details that they can enjoy living in every single day.
