Period Family Home Refresh, Henleaze
With its welcoming atmosphere, the picturesque charm of the tree-lined street, and the abundance of independent foodies’ places, Henleaze is one of the beacons of family-friendly living in Bristol.
When our clients, a delightful couple with a young child in tow, sought to transform their newly acquired dream period home in this vibrant neighbourhood, they turned to us for help with interior design and project implementation.
The Kitchen
Our journey began in the heart of the home – the kitchen. With dark blue units, a large island, light walls and so much natural light flooding the space, it was a dream design brief – creating a contemporary classic look – one of our favourites. Part of the kitchen layout and units were to be changed at a later date so we turned our attention to carving out a snug area and dining space. The open plan space already had natural zones which helped to decide where everything should go.
The couple was keen to retain their beautiful glass and teak table from Raft Furniture so the existing built-in bench seating was removed in favour of a more classic table and chairs arrangement.

The dining area became a natural extension of the kitchen with the ribbed glass pendants creating the connection between both spaces. As for the pinball machine, it found its rightful place in the snug, adding a playful touch to the space.
The living room
Step into the living room, and you're greeted by its stunning features – tall ceilings with ornate coving and a cozy fireplace with a wood-burner, setting the stage for something special.

In our design approach, we prioritised preserving the room's intended function: a sociable and versatile space, either for relaxation or entertaining, with a seamless connection to the kitchen, rather than the TV becoming the focal point. The sofa layout encourages discussion and allows plenty of walkway flow all around the room. We completed the style with a statement chandelier and carefully curated accessories to bring the space to life.
The result? An atmosphere that effortlessly balances sophistication with warmth, ideal for both entertaining guests and enjoying quality time with loved ones, including playing with the little ones.
Master Bedroom
Drawing inspiration from the couple's desire for tranquillity, mixed with a boutique hotel feel, we curated a palette of soft neutrals and tactile textures, complemented by bespoke furnishings.
Master Bedroom: curtains 'Ukulele' by Camengo, walls 'Coloseum' by Mylands of London
Every element was thoughtfully tailored to evoke a sense of peace and understated luxury. We created a brief and concept for the built-in wardrobe that was beautifully designed and built by Creative Storage and Kitchens, Bristol-maker whom we’ve partnered with on a number of projects.
Every inch of the space was utilised to provide storage, a hair drying and make station – we love making small alcoves work hard.
The Nursery
Embracing a neutral palette to harmonise with the home's aesthetic, our nursery design is calm but fun; decorated with textured accents and gentle hues with a cloud wallpaper on the ceiling which we hoped would encourage peaceful slumber.

With the generous proportions of the room, it could easily feel very empty, but we re-purposed existing furniture to create a multifunctional and versatile environment to adapt and evolve alongside their growing family.
Here’s what the owners had to say:
“Ivywell helped us make our new home ours. They helped us with choosing new colours for the house and redesigning a few rooms.
We wanted a hotel feel bedroom and a nursery in neutral colours that will grow with our baby. They made the two rooms look amazing and exactly like we imagined them to be.
Ivywell also put us in touch with various other people that they work with and we had an amazing build in wardrobe built in our bedroom and beautiful curtains & blinds throughout the house.
Communication was very easy and the whole team was there to help through the project.
We love our home and we are so happy that we found Ivywell to help us make our dream home come true.”
We are so delighted with how this project turned out but most of all pleased to have delivered on our clients’ brief to make their house a home.
