A Foodie’s Dream Kitchen Extension

"Kirsty and Elke have been great fun to work with. They totally got what I wanted and have given me a simple and inspiring framework to create a lovely home. We renovated almost half the house and they made the design part easy when it came to choosing items like lighting, handles etc…always on the phone if I needed them and they will continue to help me as we steadily complete the house with the right furniture and curtains"

Tailored to perfection

Creating a kitchen and dining space that truly worked for this couple was all about tailoring the design to their love of cooking and hosting. With a corner plot to work with, a bit of clever thinking was needed to ensure an open-plan layout that didn’t just look great but functioned beautifully too. In collaboration with DHV Architects, who handled the architectural design, while we focused on the interior design, we got to work.

The wish list was long—pantry, American fridge, dedicated coffee area—but hey, a foodie’s kitchen isn’t complete without a pantry! So, we carved one out as an extension of the utility room, fitting it with floor-to-ceiling shelves to maximise storage. It may be compact, but it’s a powerhouse of organisation—and filled with treats we were lucky enough to sample! The generous central island invites guests to gather while meals are prepped, with a large dining table perfectly positioned by the sliding doors for when it’s time to sit and enjoy.

A Strong & Personal Vision

Not all clients come to us with a fully formed brief, but in this home, the owners had a clear vision and a favourite colour palette to match. Shades of blue and blush pink with black accents create a distinctive style that flows seamlessly throughout the house. This personal touch meant every design choice felt intentional, making the space both beautiful and truly ‘them’.

A Framework for Success

Our role was to provide a solid design framework—floor layouts, colour schemes, window treatments, flooring, and all those essential finishing touches. With this structure in place, the homeowners were able to confidently navigate their renovation, implementing each element with their chosen trades.

Extending with Purpose

A well-designed extension shouldn’t just add space—it should enhance the entire home. Too often, new extensions leave existing rooms feeling redundant. Here, we made sure the snug at the back of the house still had a purpose (the teenagers were thrilled to claim it as their hangout spot—conveniently near the fridge). This also meant the front living room could shine as a stylish reception area—perfect for pre-dinner drinks (because who doesn’t love a well-stocked cocktail cabinet?) or as a quiet retreat away from the bustle of the kitchen.

This project was a true collaboration of architecture and interiors design, blending our expertise with the homeowners’ vision to create a space that’s not just functional but full of personality.
