Edwardian Home extension

An Edwardian home
extension in Bishopston with a foodie-focused heart

This Edwardian property in Bishopston, Bristol underwent a full renovation and ground floor extension to create a more functional layout tailored to busy family life. Working in collaboration with DHV Architects, who designed the rear extension, we developed an interior scheme that blends Scandinavian simplicity with original period details, resulting in a home that feels both contemporary and full of character.

At the heart of the design is a spacious, light-filled kitchen designed for keen cooks and relaxed family gatherings. It’s a great example of how we consider the relationship between inside and out—creating flexible, practical spaces that work beautifully for modern living.

After the renovation

"Kirsty and Elke have been great fun to work with. They totally got what I wanted and have given me a simple and inspiring framework to create a lovely home. We renovated almost half the house and they made the design part easy when it came to choosing items like lighting, handles etc…always on the phone if I needed them and they will continue to help me as we steadily complete the house with the right furniture and curtains"

A perfectly tailored kitchen extension

Creating a kitchen and dining space that truly worked for this couple was all about tailoring the design to their love of cooking and hosting. With a corner plot to work with, a bit of clever thinking was needed to ensure an open-plan layout that didn’t just look great but functioned beautifully too. In collaboration with DHV Architects, who handled the architectural design, while we focused on the interior design, we got to work.

The wish list was long—pantry, American fridge, dedicated coffee area—but hey, a foodie’s kitchen isn’t complete without a pantry! So, we carved one out as an extension of the utility room, fitting it with floor-to-ceiling shelves to maximise storage. It may be compact, but it’s a powerhouse of organisation—and filled with treats we were lucky enough to sample! The generous central island invites guests to gather while meals are prepped, with a large dining table perfectly positioned by the sliding doors for when it’s time to sit and enjoy.

A strong and personal interior vision

Not all clients come to us with a fully formed brief, but in this home, the owners had a clear vision and a favourite colour palette to match. Shades of blue and blush pink with black accents create a distinctive style that flows seamlessly throughout the house. This personal touch meant every design choice felt intentional, making the space both beautiful and truly ‘them’.

A clear interior design framework for a seamless renovation

Our role in this Edwardian home renovation was to create a solid interior design framework: from floor layouts and colour schemes to flooring, window treatments, and finishing touches. With this structure in place, the homeowners could confidently manage the renovation process, bringing the vision to life alongside their trusted trades

Extending with Purpose – and preserving the soul of the home

A well-designed extension should do more than add space; it should enhance how the whole house feels and functions. All too often, rear extensions leave older rooms feeling disconnected or redundant. Not here.

We ensured the snug at the back of the house retained its purpose—quickly claimed by the teenagers as their chill-out zone, conveniently close to the fridge. Meanwhile, the front living room now works beautifully as a stylish reception space, ideal for pre-dinner drinks, quiet reading, or enjoying the homeowners’ enviable cocktail cabinet.

This project is a great example of collaborative design—architecture and interiors working hand in hand. By blending our expertise with the owners’ vision, we created a home that’s not only practical and adaptable, but packed with personality.
