Contemporary Home Remodel

A Striking Family Home Get a Style Upgrade

Ten years after building their contemporary dream home, our clients came to us for help refining their space and enhancing its style. With standout features like a curved staircase and a glass walkway over a double-height rear space, their home was already a showstopper. Our brief? To reimagine the ground floor and, most importantly, tackle their biggest challenge: the living room.

A dream’s home living room

The living room felt dark, uninviting, and tricky to use. We got stuck into the details—who would use the space, when, and for what—crafting a design brief that ticked all the boxes. In essence, a multi-functional room perfect for entertaining friends and cosy family movie nights. Quite a feat!

Our boldest move was blocking up a window to make way for a bespoke media wall—a bit controversial but it completely transformed the feel of the room. We managed every detail of the installation to ensure of the elements – sleek gas fire, concealed AV system and mood lighting – would all work beautifully together.

Once the layout was sorted, we could focus on the softer elements that would bring the space to life. We designed bespoke sofas and footstools, handmade locally in Bristol, to provide ultimate comfort—whether the family’s stretching out for a film or sneaking in an afternoon nap. The clients were delighted that their living room was no longer an afterthought but the heart of the home.

Little touches for a big impact

For the dining room, we introduced a bold, warm colour palette to add contrast to the home’s otherwise pared-back aesthetic. Retaining the owners’ existing furniture, we reupholstered the dining chairs to complement the new scheme and created a welcoming space perfect for hosting.

Balancing beauty with practicality was key throughout this project. We refinished the oak floors, repainted walls in muted tones, and replaced the kitchen extractor hood with a sleek downdraft model to resolve some functional challenges.

The home’s striking double-height rear elevation brought its own set of creative head-scratchers. We softened the space with voile curtains to filter the light, but with fabric hanging 4 metres high, a motorised track was a must for effortless use. Choosing light pendants was another tricky task—we needed a design that celebrated the volume of the space without overwhelming it.

From design to implementation

Working closely with our clients, we managed the project to coordinate the trades and ensure a seamless transformation from concept to completion. The result? A dining room that’s as stylish as it is practical, a family entertainment room they love spending time in and a home our clients can enjoy for years to come.

Dreaming of transforming your space? We’d love to hear your ideas and help make them a reality—let’s create something wonderful together.
